The Youth
Director is the one primarily responsible for the ministry
programs to Middle School and Senior High students. The Director
will report to the Pastor and will be a half-time hourly
position. Listed below are the main components of the Youth
Director ministry at Sturge Presbyterian Church.
·
To have a vision
for the youth program that is consistent with the overall vision
of Sturge PC.
·
To develop, plan
and implement a ministry to both Middle School and Senior High
youth. The ministries will be separate and the program should
reflect the special needs of the specific age group. Both Middle
School and Senior High programs should include the following:
a.
A Sunday morning program.
b.
Regularly scheduled youth fellowship events (for fun and
relationship building).
c.
Regularly scheduled youth meetings (for Christian faith
development and relationship building).
d.
Regularly scheduled opportunities for service and mission
programs. Promote cross generational events and programs in
serving the Sturge Family.
e.
Developing ways of reaching out to youth who don’t go to
church.
f.
Leadership development of adults and youth. Assist with
the panning, recruiting of youth, training and implementation of
the VBS program.
g.
To effectively communicate the ministry program to the
church and to the parents. This involves monthly (and perhaps
quarterly) youth calendars and/or newsletters, session reports,
articles in the church newsletter and regular parent information
meetings.
This focus would involve 85-90%
of the Youth Director’s time.
To provide guidance to the
college age congregation.
·
To provide guidance
in initiating a College Ministry.
·
To
assist high school seniors transition to college by identifying
fellowship groups and other Christian churches in the area of
the selected college campuses for the student to participate in
and following up on their participation.
This focus would involve 10-15%
of the Youth Director’s time.
·
To explore the
possibility of reaching out to the youth in our local schools.
·
To coordinate the
youth ministry with the church programs and other staff.
·
To recruit and
train adult leadership to assist in the youth ministry.
·
To meet regularly
with the Pastor to confirm specific goals and time frames for
goals.
